Dorchester Investigation

Age of site: House built in 1903

Para Boston was called in to do an (emergency) investigation for a woman and her children. The family is in the process of purchasing a home. They fear the home may be haunted. They are almost desperate and do not know where to turn for help. They are experiencing everything from poltergeist activity, seeing apparitions, experiencing sickness, headaches, their animals are ill and are feeling unsafe in their home (so fearful they sought out a hotel for a number of nights) they are requesting help

History of Site:

Potential owner is currently in the process of purchasing the house from a friend who has never lived in (the house that they purchased it in 2006). Former owner of the House occupied it until 2004. House had been vacant for quite a few years, and has had multiple buyers and numerous turnovers.

Nature of Haunting:

 Potential owners Daughter is having trouble sleeping her bedroom door handle is being twisted and shaken. She has seen a figure of woman’s reflection in her bedroom mirror. She does not like being in the house alone at night. She has witnessed the automatic motion activated trash can open as if someone unseen is activating it; this has happened multiple times.

 Potential owner’s boyfriend has reported a force holding him down during the night making it difficult to talk or move. Also, couple is reporting wavering temperatures in their bedroom that wakes them up and forces them to dress or undress accordingly. The boyfriend has sensed something was in the house from the beginning, however, has never spoke of it.

 Neighbor reportedly witnessed a ritual in the front yard; where a group of men in white robes and turbans, where chanting, dug a deep hole and stood around it in a circle. Flowers encircled the hole. A man wearing only a cloth; similar to a diaper ;climbed into the hole and placed an object into the hole. Candles were lit and remained lit, even when it started to rain

 Potential owners Son, has been seen talking to an unknown visitor. He later told Mom that there are spirits in the house but will not elaborate. Son has also reported frequent headaches.

 They stated one of the cats ended up very ill and would get spooked from time to time inside the house.

 September 2, 2008: First: She was with her friend that performed the cleansing ritual with her; the spirit told her that her name was,” Marlee”.

 Second dream: Boyfriend was bringing gifts home for a big party, as if a surprise party was going on. Potential owner felt these dreams were related to the spirit somehow.

The house has been blessed four times:

Her Grandmother blessed the house twice

Baptist Priest Rasta Ritual with Incense- Frankincense and Myrrh coil.

This ritual performed over 7 days. Supposedly, when the coal flips, it has worked. On last day of ritual, the and coal exploded. The smoke of the incense was not floating in a normal pattern It followed the friend determinedly.

Investigators: Scott, Sal, Bart, Mike, John, Heidi, Jason, Tabby, Madeline, Laura, Matt, Brianne, Diane

The house is in the process of being renovated, renovations are not quite complete.

The house is in a nice neighborhood; a vacant lot is across the street and is located nearby a school.

The house is three floors and a basement.

The first floor

  is an empty apartment, renovated and clean with all new appliances Temp. 79 degrees F, windows shut decreased circulation

 Electromagnetic Field (EMF) readings 0.1 to 6.0 with power still on (normal readings)

Smells; latex paint, new woodwork with fresh polyurethane, Styrofoam from new appliances/furniture, one room was dirty with cat feces.

Ion count:(normal ion count is .200 to .300 (ppcc)

Kitchen: showed 2.1 x 1,000 (2.100) parts per cubic centimeter (ppcc) Near the cabinets and 1.5 x 1,000 (1.500) ppcc near the dining area off the kitchen.

The front left room was 1.6 x 1,000 (1.600) ppcc ***note: the higher from the foundation the lower the Ion count should be. They are dropping, however still are substantially higher that normal

The second floor:

Again, newly renovated, with hardwood floor, new rug, new paint, new polyurethane and all new appliances with many personal items not yet unpacked.

Temp consistent 80 degrees F, most windows are shut, little circulation EMF readings fluctuating from 0.1 to 3.0 with power off (never a constant reading) Smells of latex paint, polyurethane, woodwork, ammonia from cat litter box, new appliances

Ion count :(normal ion count is .200 to .300 (ppcc)

Kitchen: This room showed a close to normal ion of 0.8 x 1,000 ) =(.800) ppcc however, the window was open*. ***Open windows or fans cause the room to circulate the ions around giving them lower readings.

Bedroom off the kitchen showed 0.6 x 1,00 (0.600) ppcc… Again, windows were open.

Front right room showed a 1.0 x 1,000 (1.000) ppcc. The window was ajar about 5 inches. Front Left room showed 1.2 x 1,000 (1.200) ppcc. This window was slightly open.

The third floor:

 Newly painted rooms, hardwood floor in stairway and hall; bedrooms had new rugs and many unpacked items. Temp consistent 83 degrees F, most windows are shut; little circulation EMF fluctuations same as second floor Smells same as second floor Many rooms are very abstract in shape, with many corners, low ceilings. Only exception was followup day for ion readings all windows were open. Therefore, making an ion count useless and inacurate for this floor. 

Front yard: 

A small, fenced in grass area. This was scanned with a metal detector, nothing was found.

Backyard:

 A moderate size fence in area with grass and enclosed in fence on all sides. Back porch had some construction materials and an open gas container emitting fumes

Basement: 

 Has stone foundation, new heating system, plumbing etc...; very damp with moderate evidence of water damage, with very noticeable water line reaching about 1.5 feet in height; Recent renovation materials still present Temperature was cooler approximately 65 degrees F.  EMF sweep only showed variances by the fuse panel and around plumbing Some deficient wiring was visible by one light fixture

Ion count Basement:

The basement showed a very large amount of Ions. Front left corner showed 3.6 x1,000 ppcc (3,600) Front right was 2.9 x 1,000 ppcc. (2,900) Toward the center right showed the highest reading of 4.0 x 1,000 (4000) ppcc Center left was 2.6 x 1,000 ppcc. (2,600) The back of the basement showed 3.8 x 1,000 ppcc. (3,800)

Conclusion:

 Most investigators experiences air heaviness/pressure in the backyard and on the second and third floor, some nausea and headaches, a high level of fumes with no air circulation along with high temperature, which only exasperated the smells.

 No picture evidence, variable EMF readings without power on, possible EVPs captured from basement and unusually high Ion readings*.

 Ion readings were done starting from the basement up. These readings were done in the direction as if you were facing the home. Ion readings are measured in "parts per cubic centimeter or PPCC". A normal reading would be 200 to 300 ppcc. High levels of Ions shows signs of possible high radon count as well as causing very uneasy or ill feelings. They are also a cause for stress. Any reading over 1,000 is considered very high. Negative Ions are very good comfortable feeling and Positive Ions are the one's that would cause these symptoms. A good balance would be 5 negative Ions for every 4 positive one.

 The house does come with a reputation for being haunted, as reported by a group of people in the neighborhood. However, evidence does not support this at this time. The recent renovation is most likely responsible The Balance of negative Ions can be produced by adding running water in the home such as waterfalls or shower. Also, a blowing fan can help circulate the molecules that would allow a balance flow in the home.

 Most of the activity experienced is very similar to sleep paralysis. I would strongly suggest that the owners read on both items…”How positive IONS can effect you” and “ what is sleep paralysis”.

 The Charcoal that was burned as ritual showed signs of air pockets. When these air pockets get too hot they will cause mini explosions: possibly creating the flipping effect.

Also to take note was neither the child nor either cats showed signs of discomfort while we were there. In our opinion as paranormal investigators, we have found no facts to support a haunting but have sufficient evidence to conclude that what they may be experiencing is caused by the home itself.
